Used to have a telescope as a kid - little 2.5 in. Sears brand. I spent ours in the backyard looking at anything and everything - knew every constellation and where all the main items of interest were. That was living in a relatively small town with almost no light pollution - could see the Milky Way! I live in a metro now - can barely see the brightest stars and planets. I'd have gotten a telescope and wired it to my computer indoors if I lived in the right place. No point .
