Way back, in the first years of my computing life(late starter that I was) I stayed up half the night once deleting all things Norton and Symantec from my windows 98 computer registry. I don't remember why - maybe I didn't know about the removal tool, or they didn't have it. I do remember using a different firewall client from my anti-virus at the time and I might have had a conflict that I was trying to resolve. The bottom line was that it was very tedious, and I felt lucky not to mess something up. Since that experience I have stuck to published and reliable registry hacks that I find online. I just don't know enough about the registry structure and functionality to go barging in and change something totally on my own - that said I can and will follow directions.
