I had Nokia flip phones when I was on the road and for less than $100 bucks I bought a magnetic antenna and all of the conversion parts to go from the phone plug, Thinks mini coax plug, to the antenna on the roof of the vehicle. Worked like a champ. I can not do as you suggest because of the HOA regs. My OTA TV antenna is at 6' above the roof and that is the max it can go. A techy at Wilson electronics told me that for their phone repeaters to work I needed 20' vertical and 50 foot horizontal clearances from my tv antenna. Here in the Arizona PVC is not used exposed to the sun. Even the heavy wall stuff lasts less than 3 summers before turning into powder.
